The lecture examines the National Parliament Building of Bangladesh, designed by Architect Louis Kahn- tracing its historic development as a parallel to the birth of the nation, subsequent successes and failures in facilitating democratic practices and most recently, the uprising of Summer 2024 and the resultant events that unfolded in the premises of the Jatiyo Shangshad Bhaban.
As part of a seminar titled 'Politics of Balance', this talk will also dissect the thresholds presented by the original design as well as more recent additions of fences and boundaries in the name of security and their role in exacerbating the gap between the governing and the governed.
