The Rafiq Azam Travel Bursary

The Rafiq Azam Travel Bursary is an annual travel scholarship awarded to one student from the Department of Architecture, BRAC University. Awarded and named after Architect Rafiq Azam of Shatotto, the award includes a travel stipend to explore the architecture, culture, and heritage of a country of the awardee’s choice. The 2019 Bursary facilitated travel to Indonesia; an archipelago of over 17,000 islands.
The ten day travel explored the islands of Java through the cities of Jakarta, Jogyakarta, Malang, Surabaya, and the island of Bali. The journey covered urban cores, rural settlements, natural wonders and archaeological complexes. The tour was a revelation in mythology, settlements, and spirituality of the archipelago.
